Don't Let Hand Pain Keep You from Flossing

I am proud to say that I have all my own teeth at the age of 65. While that may not sound unusual to some people, everyone in my family who is my age or older wears dentures. I always tell people that that flossing is the key to good dental health. I have arthritis in my hands, but I don't let it keep me from flossing every day. My trick is to use those little "flossers" you can buy at the drug store. They have plastic handles floss stretched out on top of the handle. These make flossing easier on days when my arthritis is acting up. I started this blog to let other people know that they can keep their teeth healthy into old age when they take care of them. If you have hand pain, find ways to make flossing easier, like I did.

Two Important Root Canal Questions Answered

Francis Miles

The variety of dental procedures that a patient may need to undergo can be rather overwhelming and bewildering to dental patients. As a result of this, making reasonable and informed dental health care needs can be remarkably challenging. This is particularly true for those that are needing to undergo major procedures, such as root canals.

Why Would A Root Canal Treatment Be Needed?

Individuals are often very uncertain about the conditions that a root canal can be used to treat. Typically, these procedures are utilized when a tooth has developed an infection on the interior soft tissue. This infection can continue to worsen until the tooth is made hollow, and this can lead to it shattering or cracking. During a root canal procedure, the dentist will carefully remove the infected tissue from the tooth, and this will stop the damage from worsening. Sadly, the tooth will be unable to regenerate this tissue. This will result in the dentist needing to use a filler material to reinforce the interior of the tooth.

The only other option for stopping the damage and pain will be to extract the tooth. However, this may create unacceptable cosmetic complications for any patients.

Will The Tooth Suffer Cosmetic Complications?

It is often assumed that a tooth that has undergone a root canal will appear much different than the rest of the teeth. Yet, a skilled dentist will be able to almost perfectly match the crown that will cover the tooth to the color of the surrounding teeth. This will result in the protective crown blending seamlessly into the rest of your teeth. In the future, if you decide to have your teeth whitened, it could cause the crown to become more noticeable as the shade of the surrounding teeth will have changed. You may need to replace the crown so that it will match the rest of your teeth due to the inability of pigments to be absorbed.

Root canals can be essential procedures for individuals that have developed serious tooth infections and want to avoid having the tooth pulled. While these procedures can reverse much of the damage that may have been suffered by the tooth, individuals that are uninformed about this procedure may be prone to developing unnecessary stress. After you are aware of the types of problems that a root canal will repair and the fact that the new crown will be matched to the pigments of your natural teeth can help you with being prepared to undergo this dental procedure.
