Don't Let Hand Pain Keep You from Flossing

I am proud to say that I have all my own teeth at the age of 65. While that may not sound unusual to some people, everyone in my family who is my age or older wears dentures. I always tell people that that flossing is the key to good dental health. I have arthritis in my hands, but I don't let it keep me from flossing every day. My trick is to use those little "flossers" you can buy at the drug store. They have plastic handles floss stretched out on top of the handle. These make flossing easier on days when my arthritis is acting up. I started this blog to let other people know that they can keep their teeth healthy into old age when they take care of them. If you have hand pain, find ways to make flossing easier, like I did.

4 Innovative Cosmetic Dentistry Solutions For Short Teeth

Francis Miles

Some individuals have teeth that appear short. It may make them appear to have a "gummy smile." This can negatively impact self-esteem or cause individuals to try to hide their smiles. Innovative advancements in cosmetic dentistry have made it possible for individuals to get their teeth looking proportionate.

There are a variety of things that can cause individuals to have short teeth. Lifestyle habits such as drug or alcohol abuse can erode enamel and shorten teeth. These lifestyle choices may also contribute to gum disease, which also shortens teeth. Individuals who consume acidic food or grind their teeth may also be affected. Some individuals are genetically predisposed to having short teeth. The following points highlight a few cosmetic treatments that can correct short teeth.

Gum Recontouring

Dentists perform oral examinations prior to suggesting cosmetic procedures. Sometimes they discover that individuals' teeth appear short because they have excess gum tissue. An appropriate cosmetic dentistry solution for this issue is to excise some of the excess tissue. This will expose more of the teeth and make them appear longer.

Periodontal Therapy

This is a type of procedure that can be effective when individuals' teeth shorten due to gum disease. A telltale sign of gum disease is swollen gum tissue. The swelling can make teeth appear shorter. It is caused by infection underneath the gumline. Administering the therapeutic treatments kills the bacteria, and the gums shrink back to their normal size, exposing the true size of the individual's teeth

Porcelain Veneers

Veneers are tooth coverings that can correct a variety of tooth imperfections. It is not a complex procedure. Dentists prep the teeth that will be fitted for the dental veers and cement the caps to the surface. The result is a perfect smile. Veneers are designed to blend seamlessly with surrounding teeth. Dentists match the veneers according to their patients' expected outcomes. Some individuals get veneers on all of their front teeth. Others may choose to only get them on their top arch.

Dental Crowns

Crowns are tooth coverings. They differ from veneers because they cover the entire tooth. The end results are comparable. Dentists might suggest crowns over veneers if there are issues such as tooth decay or enamel erosion present.

A cosmetic dental clinic is a good resource to use to determine which treatments are a good match for correcting short teeth. There are a variety of factors that will determine which options are a good match.
