I am proud to say that I have all my own teeth at the age of 65. While that may not sound unusual to some people, everyone in my family who is my age or older wears dentures. I always tell people that that flossing is the key to good dental health. I have arthritis in my hands, but I don't let it keep me from flossing every day. My trick is to use those little "flossers" you can buy at the drug store. They have plastic handles floss stretched out on top of the handle. These make flossing easier on days when my arthritis is acting up. I started this blog to let other people know that they can keep their teeth healthy into old age when they take care of them. If you have hand pain, find ways to make flossing easier, like I did.

Coronal leakage is a dental issue that root canal (endodontic) treatment patients may experience after their treatment. As you know, endodontic treatment is used to repair and save teeth whose root has been damaged by infection. The damaged or infected tissues are removed, the area is cleaned and disinfected, and the tooth is sealed and restored (with dental filling or crown). Ideally, your tooth should be forever safe once you have received root canal treatment, but things are not always that ideal in the real world.

Receding gums due to gum disease can be painful, and it can leave you with teeth that look bigger than they should. If you've already beaten gum disease with the help of a general dentist but your teeth still look larger than you'd like, your teeth could make you look older than you are. However, that doesn't mean that you're powerless to change it or that you have to alter your teeth to look better.

Braces have come a long way. No longer does everyone have to contend with a mouth full of metal. While Invisalign isn't suitable for everyone, these "braces" work by the use of clear plastic aligners that are custom made to fit your growing teenager's mouth. The plastic aligners, usually changed once a week, gradually shift the teeth, bringing them into alignment with one another, creating the perfect, straight smile. But just as with traditional braces, there are a few things you should be sure your teenager is aware of.

Teaching your children the importance of great dental hygiene and routine dental care from a young age is a great way to instill positive lifelong dental habits. However, many children have at least a small amount of fear or anxiety over going to their first dental exam and cleaning appointment. If your child is in this boat, the good news is that you can take steps to quell your child's nerves and help him or her feel more confident leading up to that first dental appointment.

Colds stink, but sometimes you just have to deal with them. It can be tempting to pass on the tooth care during this time, partly (and understandably) because you just want to stay in bed and rest, but also because the idea of sticking a toothbrush into your mouth, which has seen more than its share of coughs, isn't very appealing. You should still take care of your teeth, and here's what to do as you get through that awful cold.
